From Seattle, Washington, Clint “CD” Woodbury has established himself with the release of his third album, emerging as a blues guitarist who reaffirms rock music as a living legacy—essential if we don’t want to lose any part of its history. Understanding that Jimi Hendrix was a blues musician who chose to push boundaries. helps explain how the genre has survived. Artists like Eric Gales and Popa Chubby have gone beyond classicism and purity to champion the electric guitar as a driving force in popular music over the past six decades. Intense, challenging riffs have transformed songs rooted in both rural and urban settings, places where the blues offered few concessions, written and performed by a new generation of musicians who have absorbed vast musical knowledge and been influenced by countless predecessors. CD Woodbury has a deep command of the blues, but within his creative repertoire he finds more than enough inspiration to interpret it without preset rules. Mike Zito, Albert Castiglia, Joe Bonamassa or Samantha Fish have followed that path, and now Woodbury joins that list. Bulldog is only his third album, but it already secures him a place among contemporary blues-rock guitarists.
