Based in the Dutch town of Assen, The Black River Roots blend blues music with other offshoots like soul or country music, using plenty of imagination to strengthen their commitment to American roots music. With Kim Kloet’s impressive voice adding layers of sophistication and elegance, the music flows throughout this debut album with the band’s solidity and maturity, each member fully invested in the project and delivering excellent results. These are ten fresh, well-performed songs. Kloet is an original and spirited singer with strokes of captivating emotion. Guitarist Richard Vrieze builds the sonic foundation on which drummer Maikel Tanger and bassist Rolf Tanger sustain an incisive, ever-moving rhythm. Keyboardist Remko Wind, the band’s latest addition, showcases his musical background by contributing his eloquent musicianship to the group. “Introducing The BRR” is a modern and thoughtful album—an honest first work from a band with their engines fired up, promising to propel them toward greater moments ahead.
