In 1988, at 20, Sue Foley was leading her own band when she joined Mark Hummel for a tour and to record "Up & Jumpin’" (1989), her first appearance on an album. Clifford Antone heard her perform, and Sue Foley moved to Austin. At 21, she released Young Girl Blues (1992), the first of four albums she recorded for Antone’s Records, establishing herself as a new voice on the city’s blues scene. Born in Ottawa in 1968, Foley has been an indispensable figure in contemporary blues since those early days. Her Telecaster sound, together with her distinctive and unmistakable vocal tone, has made her a benchmark, not only for women in blues, but also as an example of professionalism and musical strength within the genre over the past twenty-five years. Her fifteen solo albums to date form an inseparable part of a consistent career in which she has never surrendered to comfort or settled for the banality of the familiar, constantly embracing new challenges and pushing her creativity forward. That is what Sue Foley is all about: always at the forefront. Her latest album is yet another challenge she has set for herself.
