Listen to samples - Russ Green - Stone Cold
I attended the Bilbao Blues Festival in Spain in 2025, and during the Mike Wheeler's set, an unfamiliar harmonica player completely blew me away. His name was Russ Green. He was an untamed force of nature, playing the harmonica with the unstoppable energy of a whirlwind. It didn't take me long to realize I was witnessing one of the most extraordinary musicians on today's blues scene. Born in Chicago and raised on the city's West Side, Russ dedicated himself to learning from his two greatest mentors, Sugar Blue and Billy Branch, before setting out to play the harmonica with the fearless spirit of his hero, Jimi Hendrix. In 2018, he released his debut album, "City Soul". Earlier in his career, he also appeared on the Chicago Blues Harmonica Project compilations "Diamonds in the Rough" (2005) and "More Rare Gems" (2009).
Russ Green is simply essential listening. "Stone Cold" is yet another live revolution for contemporary blues. This man is ready for the world, and the world is ready for him. Don't let the opportunity pass you by.
