Michael Bloomfield was found dead in his car under strange circumstances that were never clarified. Bloomfield was a crucial link in bringing blues music back to the attention of white audiences in the early 1960s. Perhaps the best guitarist I have ever heard. Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" (1965), The Paul Butterfield Blues Band (1965–1967), Electric Flag (1967–1968), "Super Session" with Al Kooper and Stephen Stills (1968), Janis Joplin's "I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! (1969), "Fathers and Sons" with Muddy Waters and Otis Spann (1969), "Triumvirate" with Dr. John and John Hammond Jr. (1973), all of these are bands and albums that defined and revolutionized blues during the magical decade. Bloomfield was deeply affected by drug use, which left him otside in the early ’70s, but it never diminished his ability to show his brilliance as a guitarist. The moment he launched into a solo and unleashed the riffs of his Stratocaster, the world seemed to stop in awe of the raw energy and emotion pouring from his fingers, blues music transcended any emotion previously felt. Michael Bloomfield was a one-of-a-kind, unrepeatable artist.
