Both musicians need no introduction. Blues rock star Kenny Wayne Shepherd and legendary bluesman Bobby Rush have teamed up for their first album together. "Young Fashioned Ways" is a superb blues album, a combination of brilliance that has given birth to ten tracks that highlight the best of each artist. Shepherd's guitar avoids any protagonism, gracefully and precisely complementing the voice and harmonica of a vibrant and fully committed Rush, just as we’ve always known him to be. Albums like this are necessary, not only because they contain high-voltage interpretative feeling but also because they allow different generations to feel attracted and captivated by the idea that blues music is an intergenerational phenomenon. It's not subject to contextual constraints, it's deeply internalized within the listener. It doesn't need to be liked, it is simply felt, and this is the key asset for the survival of a genre born over a century ago, which remains a source of regeneration and active activism for a community of musicians, fans, the media, and record labels, all dedicated to keeping an irreducible legacy alive.
