A true bluesman in Switzerland, listen to any of his albums, especially this latest one, his twentieth work. Philipp Fankhauser was born in the town of Thun, Switzerland, in 1964, and has spent the last three decades playing the blues. He fell in love with the music of the legendary Johnny Copeland, who became his mentor for a time - In his album "The Early Songs of Johnny Copeland" (2022), he expressed his gratitude and devotion to the Texas guitarist - and became not only a vigorous singer and guitarist but also an exceptional songwriter. In 1987, Fankhauser founded the Checkerboard Blues Band with singer Margie Evans and began performing across Switzerland, recording a first album, "Blues for the Lady" (1989). After four more albums with the band, in 1994 the Swiss musician moved to the United States, and a year later, he released his first solo album, "On Broadway", recorded in Memphis and produced by the renowned producer Denis Walker. He toured with Johnny Copeland until the latter's death in 1997, which led to his return to Switzerland, resurrecting the Checkerboard Blues Band and recording a new album, "Welcome to the Real World" (2000). Later, Fankhauser signed with Funk House Blues, a subsidiary of Sony BMG, releasing "Watching From The Side" (2006) and continuing with them as his label to this day. He led both the Funkhouseblues and Philipp Fankhauser Blues Band, with whom he released the live album "Life’s so Damn’ Cool" (2003). Philipp Fankhauser possesses a wide range of vocal styles that allow him to approach blues, soul, zydeco, and jazz, always rooted in black music, putting aside imitations, this artist turns any idea he presents to the audience into something original—an absolute master.
