Guitarist, arranger, producer, and songwriter Anthony Paule was born in South Africa in 1956, but before he turned one, his family moved to Los Angeles, where they settled permanently, except for a brief period of time. His early career, in the late seventies, began with a band called Tina and the Tigers, until he joined Johnny Nocturne Band as a guitarist, where he stayed for twelve years. In 1995, Paule released his first solo album, "Big Guitar". After a second album in 2001, "Hiding In Plain Sight", he formed the Anthony Paule Band and teamed up with singer Frank Bey. Together, they released their first project called "You Don't Know Nothing", recorded live in 2012 at Biscuits & Blues in San Francisco. That same year, at Kid Andersen's Greaseland Studios, they recorded the album "Soul for Your Blues". Paule also briefly joined the blues trio Hound Kings, with whom he released an album in 2013, before releasing a third album with Bey in 2015. Shortly after, he met singer Wee Willie Walker and expanded the band by adding a four-piece horn section and three backing vocalists. This marked the birth of The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra. With Walker, they released the album "After a While" in 2017, and four years later, "Not in my Lifetime" (2022), a posthumous album by Walker, as he passed away suddenly before the album's release. Subsequently, the orchestra has featured other singers such as Terry Odabi and Theo Huff, with whom they have done their latest tours before incorporating Willy Jordan and recording this new album. Jordan, a veteran artist and drummer, has performed and recorded with musicians such as Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, John Nemeth, and Carlos Santana, although he has not released any solo albums. The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra is currently the most powerful and established soul blues band in the circuit, their popularity leads them to participate in the most prestigious festivals around the world, and seeing them live is an unforgettable experience. This album, "What Are You Waiting For", presents a band at its best, and is one of the best released this year, certifying impeccable sessions full of the best contemporary soul.
