Palito Seco

duende & blues
from germany
Knut Könecke
aka
palito seco
Music, as an art form, is universal. Its language has surpassed any possibility of being reduced to identities linked to ethnic groups, cultures, beliefs, or social behaviors. Today, it is both compatible and collectively sustainable to emphasize any form of musical expression beyond its original roots, turning it into a shared heritage for all and allowing it to become a means of individual artistic expression free from orthodoxy. Born in 1964, Knut Könecke is a musician who transcends styles, boundaries, and expectations. During his teenage years, he began playing electric guitar and learned by performing in blues-rock bands. His great ambition to discover and his broad, open-minded vision of music led him to deeply study the essence of different styles: classical music, jazz, fusion, blues, rockabilly, and Latin roots. He has even recorded handcrafted dance music. For a period of time, he stepped away from the electric guitar to perfect his acoustic guitar technique. He learned the secrets of the Spanish guitar and discovered flamenco. This musical art form, deeply rooted in the Andalusian Romani tradition, became the most vital experience of his entire career. He has fused jazz and flamenco in bands such as Out Of Spain and Ventolera, incorporating dance into their performances. Other projects, such as Cabana Blue and Rumba-Connection, introduced Latin sounds into experiments compatible with pop music. Knut learned the magic of flamenco from musicians such as Tomatito - the guitarist who accompanied the legendary flamenco singer Camarón de la Isla throughout most of his career - and Pepe Justicia, an undisputed master of flamenco guitar and disciple of the greatest of them all, Paco de Lucía. But Knut Könecke does not need to look back in order to return to the blues; it has always been part of his musical DNA. He has plugged in his many guitars once again and recorded an album that undoubtedly does justice to his deep knowledge of the genre. It demonstrates that the magic — the duende in flamenco — of the blues remains at the very core of his evolution as an intergenerational and expressively timeless musician.
