Born in 1969, Michael Rubin is an innovator on the harmonica. A consummate professional and master of the instrument, he has an in-depth understanding of its expressive potential. He is also a researcher and explorer of its sounds, techniques, and possibilities for evolution, as well as of improvisation and communication. Born in New Jersey and now based in Austin, Texas, Rubin has released two albums under his own name and has contributed as a sideman to many others. Much of his work has focused on education and teaching, covering every aspect of the harmonica and its many musical contexts. His educational career spans many years, during which he has given seminars, lectures, and free lessons on his YouTube channel, earning an overwhelmingly positive response. His stylistic range encompasses an extraordinary variety of genres, including blues, jazz, country, reggae, funk, and classical music. He even took part in the Broadway musical The Civil War, which was nominated for Tony Awards. On his second album, 5 Minutes of Passion, Michael Rubin creates a rule-free dialogue between tradition and the avant-garde. The harmonica continually captivates the listener with its inspired, evocative, and electrifying sense of communication. Listening to this music means opening yourself up to a world of musical surprises, discovering unexpected delights and fascinating hidden corners along the way. Don't hesitate: these tracks deliver the irresistible feeling you're looking for whenever you need something fresh, surprising, and full of good vibes.
