The music on this album is outstanding. The songs are a triumph of imagination and originality. On his debut album, songwriter, harmonica player, guitarist, and singer Max Hightower left audiences eagerly awaiting more music of the same caliber. Just one year later, Momojo Records has brought this incomparable artist back with The Blues Chooses You, his second release, vindicating everyone who had been waiting for confirmation of his status as a truly exceptional musician. This is the blues in an age of global complexity, offering listeners a catalyzing breath of fresh air through its genuine sound and remarkable versatility. These songs are crafted with passion and subtlety, reflecting a clear-eyed vision that refuses to surrender to laziness or complacency. Hightower was a founding member of Plate Full O’ Blues, the backing band for bluesman Mac Arnold, which released five albums between 2005 and 2024. Hightower’s two solo albums are masterclasses in honesty and fidelity to the traditions that blues music demands of its songwriters and performers. They deliver equal measures of emotion and enthusiasm, combining integrity with the boldness to create music that leaves no listener indifferent.
