Laura Chavez (Mountain View, CA, 1982) has climbed every wall placed before her and has finally reached the top. It was hard to understand how an artist of her caliber had not yet released a solo album. Her beginnings as a guitarist, after joining a house band at a San Jose club at the age of eighteen, were marked by her command of the electric guitar, her carefree style, and her versatility. She made her first recordings with Lara Price, and later became the friend and guitarist of the late Candye Kane, remaining by her side until her untimely passing. Since then, Laura has been a sought-after artist in numerous recording sessions, working as a sidewoman on tours for many headliners, and her presence has elevated the quality of many other artists’ productions. In 2017, Chavez joined forces with saxophonist Vanessa Collier, and together they crafted a new take on blues and funk, captured across the five albums they recorded together. Laura Chavez has just released her first solo album, "My Voice", a ten-track instrumental project, an ode to the electric guitar that effortlessly reimagines the rock & roll of John Fogerty and The Blasters, as well as the Mexican rancheras of Lorenzo Barcelata and Chavela Vargas. Laura Chavez does not sing, but her language through the guitar says it all, and it is more than enough.
