A guitar with a universal language. A distinctive vocal sensitivity. Songs with an endless journey. Keb' Mo', the troubadour of our time, an essential reference in contemporary singer-songwriter blues. A bluesman with his own unmistakable identity, whose sincere and intimate storytelling seeks to forge a unique connection with his audience. The tradition of the storyteller who finds inspiration in the purest, most unavoidable reality, discovering harmonies in places where only the most honest minstrels travel. Keb' Mo', a 74-year-old Californian, began playing around Los Angeles at the age of 21, and in 1980, under the name Kevin Moore, released his first album. In 1994, he reinvented himself as Keb' Mo' and began playing the blues. More than thirty years later, with twenty albums to his name, his music has become a kind of religion for believers in need of music that is both redemptive and critical of a superficial existence. Keb' Mo' is a revealing attitude. He embodies the musician's true motivation, the rational meaning of playing music while keeping a healthy distance from the business. That is the blues: intimate, unpredictable, and emotional. I have to admit that I have admired Keb' Mo' ever since that self-titled 1994 album. I have not only enjoyed his music, I have also responded to his message, simple, intimate, and coherent. A message that shines a light on the reality of all of us, and when we listen to his songs, we realize that they possess an essence that is as artistic as it is human. I have the feeling that the more times I listen to this album, the more convinced I become that it is his finest statement of identity as a contemporary bluesman. Perhaps his best album.
