I have to admit it, when I first heard the song that opens this album, "I'm Worried" I thought I had made a mistake and had accidentally put Peter Green in the player during the sessions that Fleetwood Mac held at Chess Records in 1969. I have always admired Green, as well as Michael Bloomfield, Alan Wilson, Paul Butterfield, Johnny Winter, all that blues that revitalized the genre in the sixties of the last century. It was based on pure orthodoxy, an electric transcription of the blues of Muddy Waters, Elmore James, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, Little Walter, Jimmy Reed and so many other pioneers. It was the absolute acceptance of the blues by a pop audience that yearned for modernity and liberation, musically as well. Sixty years have passed since then and the blues has also evolved in every sense, it has escaped that orthodoxy, blues musicians have incorporated all kinds of styles, rock, soul, funk, which have given it vitality and the ability to survive in the face of an industry with absolute disinterest in roots music in general and the blues in particular, leaving it in the hands of a few and resilient diehards. Albums like "I'm In Trouble" and musicians like Jake Soberlak bring us back to pure blues, to the times when many of us discovered a musical genre with which we would share the rest of our lives. This album is a tribute to all of us, to the blues of our cradles. I can only thank this seventeen-year-old Canadian for daring to play the blues with such honesty and pleasure.
