Sam Cooke was one of the most influential African American artists of the 20th century. Operating outside the two major soul record labels - Motown and Stax - Cooke laid the foundation of soul music with nothing but his voice, singing songs that defined an era. These songs have remained embedded in the collective memory of American roots music since their creation and have been covered by countless artists, regardless of their style or genre. "Bring It On Home: A Tribute to Sam Cooke" is the latest incarnation of the legend, this time led by singer Gina Sicilia, a voice that for nearly two decades has been one of the contemporary forces bringing a fresh perspective to soul music. Born in 1985 to Italian immigrant parents, Sicilia has been singing Sam Cooke’s songs since the beginning of her career, celebrating his legacy as a source of inspiration and timeless artistry. This album is her ultimate tribute to the legend, one she had been working on for some time, featuring heartfelt and empathetic renditions of Cooke’s most iconic classics.
A must-listen reinterpretation that showcases Sicilia’s vocal brilliance while bringing even more glory to the myth of Sam Cooke.
