Doug MacLeod is a historic, one-of-a-kind and essential troubadour for blues music over the past fifty years, one of the great songwriters who has nourished the genre. Born in New York 79 years ago, he spent his teenage years in St. Louis, where he came into contact with the blues by attending performances by Albert King and Little Milton among others. In that city, he played bass in several local bands. After serving in the army, Doug settled in Los Angeles and quickly became part of the blues circuit, where he met George "Harmonica" Smith, they eventually became close friends. His first album was released in 1984. Since then, he has been a constant presence on stages around the world. He has released over thirty albums, spent ten years as a columnist for specialized music press, five years as a radio host, participated in several documentaries, and won six Blues Music Awards (BMAs), with nineteen additional nominations. MacLeod is a contemporary of John Hammond Jr. and Rory Block—three blues musicians still active today—who have played a decisive role in introducing acoustic blues to audiences unfamiliar with the genre. A masterful and exceptional songwriter, Doug MacLeod is also a virtuoso on all types of guitars, a skilled bottleneck slide player, and a singer who never compromises with mediocrity. His stage presence infuses every performance with the magic and power that audiences expect from a blues show, one he still delivers live today with his unique and unrepeatable presence.
