Musical activists in Argentina, Viviana Dallas and Marcelo Ponce have resumes that are beyond the reach of many. Both hold degrees in Musical Arts - voice and guitar, respectively - and teach at numerous national institutions. Their field of performance spans classical music, opera, contemporary music, jazz, gospel, and blues. The concept of Afro-American music has been the central axis of their artistic activity. Their musical activism has led them individually to lead, promote, disseminate, and participate in projects of diverse nature, always with the educational goal of reaching audiences unfamiliar with these musical styles and fostering a cultural offering that sparks interest in as many people as possible.

Their discography is not extensive, but it is intense. Stripped of any arbitrariness, both musicians have recorded the music that has most profoundly shaped them—early Delta country blues, gospel and its harmonies, the popular Black music of the 20th century. Listening to Dallas and Ponce’s latest album is a true experience. You dive into this guitar and this voice and return to the roots of blues music. It’s not black people playing on a porch, there is no suffering behind it, but you can still recognize the influence of blues on Afro-American popular music. That’s all it is, yet it remains an emotion of the human spirit.
