The Finnish Wentus Blues Band has been the most international European blues band since 1986. After a first album in 1989, their recording career has been parallel to their affiliation as a backing band of American blues artists on their European incursions. Since 2014, they definitively focused on their own career as a band and since then they have performed in more than twenty countries, performing almost two hundred performances every year. Together with the bluesman Eddie Kirkland they spent ten years of touring and recording and it's now, when the bluesman would have turned one hundred, that when they pay him this tribute with some unsurpassed tapes made with Kirkland for three years shortly before his death in 2011. This album is placed among the essentials in the collection of any fan looking for dark sessions and unmasked classic blues recordings.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Eddie Kirkland soon landed in the USA and grew up in Alabama. His figure as a bluesman was formed by playing the guitar behind the legends. Settling in Detroit in the 1940s, he met John Lee Hooker and was his second guitarist for fifteen years. He played rock'n'roll behind Little Richard and was Otis Redding's guitarist and bandleader. Starting in 1960, his solo recording career of more than fifteen albums contains true masterpieces of modern blues despite the fact that he has been a bluesman not enough recognized as an innovator and avant-garde of the genre. Europe was his second home, where he lived and toured frequently, being in the 70s when he seduced British blues-rock and participated with the band Foghat in the revival of those years. For 10 years he joined Finnish Wentus Blues Band.
