From Austria this trio of veteran and established musicians take us to Maxwell Street in the fifties, with an adaptation of the Chicago blues that was heard on street corners played by bluesmen who came to the city with echoes of delta music. Exquisite guitarist, Gerry Höller puts his technique learned during his stay in the United States, Peter "Lazy Sam" Samek, harmonica player and singer, released a solo album produced by Wolf Records in 1998 and leads The Backdoor Blues Band with whom he has released five albums , both together with Wolfgang Leinweber, drummer and percussionist, an eclectic musician who has been part of obscure bands such as Dämmerttacke, Bates Men or Zip Guns. Their meeting to record "Riding High" is a lesson in the obvious, the background of the trio is pure blues music, without superfluous additives, without any dressing that misleads the listener. Harmonica, guitar and wahsboard, primitive Chicago blues, delta blues without personal highlights that provide their songs with the idiosyncrasies of naked blues, direct and full of dust and purity. Samek's voice is absolutely black and gives this band the credibility that could be questioned for an Austrian band, Höller's guitar faithfully accompanies each passage of the album while Leinweber's percussion caresses each note to fit everything together. This album is a joy.
