In 1974 Kim Wilson and Jimmie Vaughan formed in Austin (TX) one of the most iconic blues bands of the seventies. Their iconic Wilson-Vaughan line up along with bassist Keith Ferguson and drummer Fran Cristina brought an energy and freshness to blues music that the genre was undoubtedly in need of in those years. The group's first four albums, recorded between 1979 and 1982, are authentic museum pieces considered seminal works for the blues-rock that emulsified with force from then on. Vaughan recorded three more albums and left the band to record the album "Family Style" with his brother Stevie. A few months after the album's release, Stevie had the plane accident and Jimmie decided to start a solo career. Throughout these fifty years The Fabulous Thunderbirds has been led by Wilson as the only founding member and dozens of musicians have passed through its ranks, among others guitarists Duke Robillard (who replaced Vaughan), Doyle Bramhall II, Kid Ramos, Nick Curran, Kirk Fletcher, keyboardists Gene Taylor and Chuck Leavell or bassist Willie Campbell, a total of thirty musicians have given life throughout all these years, with a production of sixteen albums plus a good number of compilations. The T-Birds are still active, extending their legendary history and without losing any of the best blues on the contemporary blues scene.
