During the edition of the 2011 Chicago Blues Festival, Shemekia Copeland was crowned the new queen of Chicago blues, a title that until then had held the head of Koko Taylor. Until that year, Shemekia had already released five albums and sung the blues all over the world. Born in New York in 1979, the daughter of Texan blues legend Johnny Copeland, Shemekia has won fifteen BMAs since 2001 and has been nominated thirty-two other times. Pure legend. Except in the period between 2009/2012 when she recorded two albums for Telarc, her career has been closely linked to Alligator Records who discovered her talent in the mid 90's. The list of musicians who have supported her in the studio includes Buddy Guy, Oliver Wood, Marc Ribot, Jimmy Vivino, Emmylou Harris, Chuck Leavell, Chester Thompson, Jim Horn, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, and also Dr. John y Steve Cropper, these two also acting as producers. At the age of 43, Shemekia has a whole career ahead to place herself among the best female blues singers in history and let no one doubt that she will be. "Done Come Too Far" is her eighth album on Alligator and I'm going to make a bet, probably her most amazing album.
