Almost eight thousand miles from the Mississippi river, we find the group of islands that form New Caledonia, French territory in Oceania, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. With just over ninety thousand residents, in the last five years it has held three independence referendums, all with negative responses. Born in the capital Noumea, Sara Bea (formerly Sara Luna) is a singer with a deep Kanak musical-cultural tradition from which she has built her own musical universe in which folk is entirely linked to the blues. With exuberant vocal prowess, Bae has built a set of songs insinuated by acoustic guitars and kanak percussions without any superfluous ornament and with an interpretive sincerity that makes each song an intimate flight into the idiosyncrasy of a cultural legacy that she vindicates chord after chord.  "Deep South" is a journey through the blues of a special singer, of a sinuous and affectionate voice that caresses the ears while tells stories that are not so far from what we could imagine in a musical proposal so far from our house door. I feel like describing these songs as the best company for the day you want to hear beauty.
