When country blues reached the big city, Steve Howell wasn’t there, but after many years, he fell in love with it and learned from it. He followed the chords of Mississippi John Hurt, Leabelly, and Blind Blake to New Orleans and discovered his unique and definitive sound. He became a contemporary bluesman. An artist since the mid-seventies, Howell, born in 1952, has played folk, jazz, R&B, and rock'n'roll for thirty years with mates like David Dodson, Jim Caskey, and finally turned The Mighty Men into his loyal band along with Chris Michael, Dave Hoffpauir and Jason
Weinheimer have been loyal to the band since its beginnings. His first album, "Country Blues & Traditional Jazz", was released in 2006, and since then, he has recorded ten more albums, all of them through his own label, Out Of The Past via Blind Raccoon. Listening to Steve Howell's music is a round-trip journey to the roots of American music, to unadulterated blues, tradition, and boundless optimism.
