Pino Daniele (Giuseppe Daniele 1955-2015) was a Neapolitan musician, composer, guitarist, and singer, who became an icon of Italian roots music. His music is based on a Neapolitan musical tradition strongly connected to Mediterranean and arab culture, while also drawing inspiration from other sources like American jazz and blues, without losing his roots in Italian song and Latin connotations.
A committed singer-songwriter, he used his songs with deep social content as a spearhead for protest and vindication. His figure gained a complicity with the audience that turned him into a revered musician in Italian musical culture, a status only reserved for figures like Franco Battiato, Lucio Dalla, Mina, or Mario Biondi. He released thirty-two albums and, like many other artists, he left us too soon.

Osvaldo Di Dio (Naples, 1980), who graduated cum laude from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan with a thesis on Jimi Hendrix, began his professional musical career in 2000, maintaining a prolific activity as a studio and live musician, working as a guitarist for artists such as Franco Battiato, Eros Ramazzotti and Mario Venuti. “Better Days”, his first solo album, was released in 2015, followed by the live album “ODD Live”, in which he performs songs by Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin and Pino Daniele. Di Dio is a musician from the south of Italy, from the Mediterranean, and this context is fully reflected in his music. An excellent guitarist, singer and composer, he stands out in contemporary Italian music, and this tribute to Pino Daniele, backed by Daniele’s own band, affirms the universality of Latin music.
