Freddie Eugene Martin, born in McComb (MS) in 1940 and cousin of Lightnin' Hopkins, moved to New Orleans in the mid-50s where he began playing in juke joints alongside locals like Slim Harpo and Champion Jack Dupree. In 1969, he recorded his first album with his mate harmonica player John S. Williams, an album that became a true cult classic. However, Freddie disappeared from the recording industry and it wasn’t until twenty-five years later that he reemerged with the album "Swamp Boogie", reviving his recording career, which today includes fifteen albums released by Orleans Records, Fat Possum, Made Wright Records, APO, and Newvelle Records. He has never stopped acting, Little Freddie King is the only bluesman to have participated in every edition of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, a true legend of Louisiana music, and the last representative of an irreplaceable generation of bluesmen. His music is the blues of the Delta, his guitar is both tough and sophisticated, and his voice resonates with a deep and raw tone. In "Things I Used to Do", he pays tribute by covering songs by Lightnin' Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Howlin' Wolf and Guitar Slim. His style leaves a mark on each interpretation, infusing the songs with a new spirit that makes them his own. Little Freddie King is pure blues—no additives, force, and conviction—a bluesman who is still writing his story.
