The legend of New Orleans funk, Malcolm Rebennack - Dr. John / The Night Tripper - passed away on June 6, 2019. With him, one of the last icons of the musical plurality and richness that New Orleans has offered the world faded away. More than forty albums released, sideman on dozens of albums, uninterrupted performances all over the world, and the absolute and unwavering recognition of his pivotal figure as a musician that propelled Dr. John to the highest echelons of 20th-century pop culture. This album has been released to coincide with its 83rd anniversary, he was born on November 21, 1941, the tapes of his unforgettable performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 5, 1986, have been recovered, a solo intimate performance , which has been restored and remastered in superb HD audio. It's a unique occasion to remember a one-of-a-kind and vibrant Dr. John, with nothing but his irreplaceable voice and indispensable piano. The traditions of Mardi Gras and voodoo ceremonies in the music of the ultimate shaman. No one like Rebennack could sing these songs in this way, celebrating the ritual of the magic that hides behind them. Long life to the doctor.
