Paul Oscher (1947-2021) has contributed decisively to making the 1940s legendary and unique, years in wich were born a generation of blues harmonica players who were decisive in the regeneration and diffusion of the genre throughout the world. Beginning in 1960, musicians like Charlie Musselwhite, Paul Butterfield, James Harman and Jerry Portnoy were heroes in their time, true pioneers. Oscher broke new ground by being included by Muddy Waters in his blues band (1967-1972), Jerry Portnoy was also in the band (1974-1980), after which he began his own career, initially solo as Brooklyn Smith and later as a duo with Louisiana Red, both toured Europe in the mid-seventies. He combined harmonica and guitar and after performing as a one-man-band for a few years, Oscher had become a well demanded session musician, adored by the entire blues family around the world and recognized as one of the great harmonicas in history.
