CASABLANCA-MONTREAL-CASABLANCA
R O U N D T R I P
Othman Wahabi IS A CANADIAN MUSICIAN OF MOROCCAN ORIGIN (born in Casablanca (Morocco) in 1983), settled in Montreal (Canada) SINCE 2005. Multi-instrumentalist, with the guitar as the main instrument, his eclecticism is evident from the first listen to his music. Around blues music, his interpretations leave open a window to his roots in the traditional music of Northwest Africa - so called desert blues - with Ali Farka-Toure or Toumani Diabaté as references as well as warmer sounds such as reggae music or Caribbean rhythms. It's not new, because bluesmen like Taj Mahal or Corey Harris, among others, have introduced that styles to the blues, but it is new that a native musician offers that mix in an original way. The richness that Othman Wahabi offers in his music as a Muslim is the richness of his diverse proposals. The tradition and musical legacy of the Sahel area and its link with the blues is latent in Wahabi's work, the point of tangency between the two cultures finds in this musician a maximum exponent who claims that roots music is global and not there are borders that limit it. Otham Wahabi is a North African bluesman who is already essential for new generations who approach blues music from other starting points.
