All Along the Watchtower (Larry McCray)

Larry McCray is one of the finest guitarists and singers of his generation. Born in Arkansas in 1960, his legend as a bluesman has been forged during the last thirty years in which he has not left the road, his live performances are always memorable, and he has gone through the recording studio to record nine essential albums. He started his professional career in 1990 with "Ambition", an album that already showed that blues music was attending the birth of a new rising value. Seven years after his last album, "The Gibson Sessions" released in 2017, Joe Bonamassa has put him back in the forefront producing together with Josh Smith this new work "Blues Without You" for his non-profit label Keeping The Blues Alive, an album in which McCray pays tribute to his late manager and in which he has had the collaboration of illustrious musicians such as Warren Haynes, Joanna Connor and Reese Wynnans, who was the keyboardist among others for Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble. There are twelve impressive songs, with a presence of McCray always respectful with the backing band and leaving us some splendid guitar passages that make some simply unbeatable compositions even better. This guy is still fortunately lucid and at the top.
