Born in Camdem (MS) in 1945, John Primer came to Chicago in the early sixties. After a few years playing clubs on the east side, in the mid-seventies he joined the Theresa's Lounge house band on the south side backing Junior Wells. His first experience outside of the USA came when Willie Dixon discovered him and and take him on tour for a year. The guitarist did not go unnoticed by Muddy Waters who called him to lead his blues band in 1980. After Waters' death in 1983, Primer joined the Teardrops of Magic Slim with whom he spent fifteen years creating, together with bassist Nick Holt, the personal sound of the Teardrops in those years. In 1991 he started his solo career with the release of "Poor Man Blues". He has won three BMAs and has been nominated twelve other times. This is, at seventy-seven years old, a schematic review of a legendary bluesman, an orthodox musician of the Chicago blues sound who is still active and in exceptional shape, currently a regular at Rosa's Lounge sessions and going out on tour non-stop. More than twenty albums released by his own, with the Teardrops, with his mythical The Real Deal Blues Band or the two sessions lately released with Bob Corritore, are all priceless samples of John Primer's transcendence as a bluesman. It's not necessary to praise the magnificence of this guitarist, he's already in the books, and his music will be forever.
