blind boy fuller (fULTON ALLEN)
(1907 - 1941)
Born in North Carolina, Blind Boy Fuller personified one of the greatest exponents of the Piedmont blues style. Completely blind since 1928, Blind Boy began busking with his resonator guitar and ragtime fingerpicking playing, and his first recordings were made in the mid-1930s, popularizing songs like "Rag Mama Rag," "Step It Up and Go" or "Get Your Yas Yas Out", this last song was taken by The Rolling Stones for their 1969 live album tittle. His recordings with harmonica player Sonny Terry were decisive to lead and define the original Piedmont blues style, in the lyrics of his songs mixed a sense of humor with subtle sexual references and his record production covered around more than a hundred sides, the last ones recorded in New York in 1940 a few months before he died of various infections and kidney failure.
