Ghalia Volt
Born in Brussels, daughter of a Spanish mother, Ghalia Volt did not start singing in church, she did it in the dirtiest street corners of the Belgian capital. Only with her guitar on the back, she spent all the money she had on a ticket and she took a plane to Chicago and played every street corner of the windy city. She wanted to play blues and she was going to get it. After a short time, she went on her first stage at the Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival, Clarksdale, shortly after, down in New Orleans, she met Johnny Mastro and released her first album. The story of this woman is the story of persistence and obsession with climbing the steps until her music is taken into account. The German label RUF Records noticed her from the beginning and gave her the necessary push to achieve a productive and deservedly successful journey. Four splendid albums in which Ghalia Volt shows herself to be an all rounder - also as One Woman Band - guitarist, singer and songwriter - also a percussionist - and stands as the most specifically genuine and encouraging European blueswoman. With her latest album "Shout Sister Shout", the most complete and personal to date, Ghalia places herself at the top of her career and, most importantly, she predicts her future with extremely encouraging expectations.
