Robert Crumb, cult of the American underground comic, not only put the drawings of renowned delta bluesmen on paper as a hobby while devising the Fritz Cat stories, he also ventured to put his insolent creativity to music while designing iconic album covers and in the early seventies he founded the band Cheap Suit Serenades together with fellow cartoonist Robert Armstrong. They released three albums, the last one in 1978, in which they had fun playing blues from the 20s and 30s, ragtime, country blues and anything that will go through their heads from their favorite musicians. The best extension of that musical adventure can be found in the New York's band Eden & John's East River String Band, which together with Dom Flemon's Carolina Chocolate Drops are the living resistance to the true pioneers of music that Son House and Robert Johnson later developed.

The East River String Band are the duo formed by John Heneghan and Eden Brower, both versatile string instrumentalists, they were created in 2005 and have recorded nine albums. Robert Crumb, who had left the Serenades and yearned to continue being linked to music, joined them both in 2009 with whom he has performed live and has contributed to the recording of their albums. Their proposal continues to be the echo of primitive blues, vaudeville, songster songs and dusty swing now forgotten, all with a good dose of fun and respect with high professionalism and fidelity. At the moment we can continue listening to this music with renewed incentives.
