Five albums since 1991 is not a lot for a musician like Dave Weld. And much less so for one of the most refined and intuitive guitarists to emerge from Chicago's West Side in the mid-seventies. Born in the Windy City in 1952, Weld was a regular at the clubs in that area of ​​the city playing for numerous bluesmen and learning a bit from all of them. He formed his first band with Brewer Phillips and Ted Harvey, the mythical Hound Dog Taylor's Houserockers, orphans after he passed in 1975. During that period it was JB Hutto who mentored him and put him in contact with his nephew Ed Williams who was looking for musicians to form a blues band. In 1984 Lil' Ed & The Blue Imperials were born. In 1986 Bruce Iglauer released their first album "Roughhousin'" for Alligator Records, a true milestone for the Chicago label and the emerging blues of the eighties. Dave did not continue in the band and two years later he founded what is still his band, the Imperial Flames. In 1991 the Belgian label Blue Sting Records released Weld and the Flames' first album, "Rough Rockin' In Chicago", a fantastic blast of Chicago Blues. His relationship with Lil' Ed was always up to date and in 1995 Earwig Music brought them together again and the result was "Keep On Walkin'", another priceless collection from two buddies in top form. Finally at the end of the 2000s, Delmark Records entered the scene and Bob Koester produced "Burnin' Love" in 2010, Dave's first work for the Chicago label and five years later he recorded the second album for Delmark, "Slip Into A Dream". We've had to wait seven more years for Dave Weld to re-enter a recording studio, finding Tom Hambridge willing to produce this "Nightwalk", a true walk by the hand of a musician who has bring back the most classic Chicago blues back to the first five-column contemporary blues page.
