Living legend. The most transcendental white blues musician in the history of this music. Mississippi born, the harmonica player but also guitarist, singer and songwriter Charlie Musselwhite has been building in his almost sixty-year career one of the broadest and most determining legacies in the modern blues music history . And he's still in the gap. His more than forty released albums, dozens of collaborations for other artists and hundreds miles traveled around the world with the harmonica as his only luggage, are not enough for this man to go back into the studio to record an anthological  album.  Musselwhite is not only one of the best  harmonica players the blues has ever known, he's also an excellent guitarist and on this album he proves it, to the surprise of a few and the delight of all. Along with bass player Barry Bays and drummer Ricky “Quicksand” Martin, Musselwhite alternates acoustic and electric guitars to greet us with the best lively harmonica phrasing in this new Alligator production, "Mississippi Son", a tribute to his origins and a true jewel to keep in the drawer of the most precious musical works. At 78 Charlie Musselwhite lives the blues as in his early days and transmits it to us in the best way. I wish he could always be there.
