Brett Benton is another name to add to the list of bluesmen who have come to the fore in the last decade. Guitarist with a blues conscience. His traveling bag is full of the old songs that made the Mississippi Delta the birthplace of modern blues, the country blues of the pioneers, the hill country blues of the lazy, sleepy forgotten of the North. Benton personifies the resurrection of all that dusty music full of laments, listening to him shows that this legacy has survived its own time and there is no doubt the connection between the spirit with which they were played and sung a century ago and its update by a regenerating and rehabilitating musician. Brett Benton has recorded two studio albums, the first with the collaboration of his mate Cedric Burnside, and this second "Southern Raised", both are an exemplary rescue exercise of the most transcendental and influential blues in its entire history. Making use of the Resonator or the electric guitars, Benton makes the original tuning prevail and promotes a modernization of the sound and melodies that surprisingly approach the original interpretation patterns. With his youth, skill and knowledge, this new bluesman continues to feed and water the roots of blues music as a sign that its evolution is still in good hands.
