"The Chicago Sessions"
Self released - 2020
Born in the Mississippi State in 1943, Jimmy Burns, younger brother of Detroit-based guitarist Eddie "Guitar" Burns who died in 2012, has been an exceptional musician throughout his musical career in Chicago, he started playing live in his clubs in the early 90's, and since then has released five essential albums by the indisputable Delmark Records label. Classic Chicago Blues for the most soul guitarist of all time. "Chicago Blues Sessions" self-produced album early this year, is a challenge for the most restrained listener and a good dish for the most curious and incisive diner. The biographical "Back In The Day" and "Waiting For The Bus" are two spoked-songs above a hypnotic musical carpet that makes the listener to travel to the places and horizons narrated by the storyteller. At seventy-seven, Jimmy Burns has done a studio work in which he revisits once more Willie Dixon, Memphis Slim or Howlin 'Wolf, but this time the reading transgresses the simple re-interpretation of the classics, approaching some sounds outside the twelve bars. As modern as efficient.
