Not website. Don't look for him on social media. No digital platforms. A cassette tape released in 1985 and three albums since 2000. Somewhat hidden, Angelo "Leadbelly" Rossi born in Italian Lombardy 69 years ago needs nothing more than the recognition of the many blues fans in his country. Illustrated by his devotion to Louisiana bluesman Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly), veteran Rossi is an expert in delta country blues, a wonderfully fine guitarist, also plays harmonica and kazoo percussion. In this his third album, he moves away from the twelve-bar orthodoxy to risk illustrating in eight songs his intuition to compose and perform his black music roots in a different way. A journey through calm waters, with a band reduced to a second guitar, bass and drums, but with an irresistible affectivity. Angelo Rossi's guitar takes center stage only when necessary and you always ask for a little more but the limits are perfectly planned. A great work of songwriting without being subjugated to unnecessary arranging, "I Don't Always Matter How Good You Play" is an intense and delicious album from an undisputed bluesman.
